Project Objectives

The objective of the BRAC TB control program is to provide accessible and quality TB diagnosis and treatment, reduce transmission and mortality, and achieve national targets for case detection and treatment success. Initially, this involved making care available to the poor through community health workers, and it has since evolved to focus on broader goals like achieving universal access to care and eliminating TB as a public health problem, often in partnership with the government and other organizations.

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcomes of BRAC's TB control program are high rates of case detection and treatment success (over 85% cure rate), a low patient drop-out rate, and more cost-effective delivery of care compared to government programs. The program aims to reduce the overall burden of TB, including morbidity, mortality, and transmission, contributing to the national goal of eventually eliminating it as a public health problem in Bangladesh.
